The history of the Verdi’s in Vergomberra dates back to the XVIII century when Antonio Verdi, coming from the duchy of Parma, settled down in Oltrepo’ Pavese. From that moment, seven generations have followed one another in the care of the family’s ground. The production was founded on wheat and corn; the mulberries gave the leaves for the rearing of silkworms; a good number of perches were dedicated to wine, not less important than other typical productions in Oltrepo’. Already with Luigi, the third generation, the Verdi’s combine the care of vineyards with the art of transformations of the grapes into wine, becoming winemakers and builders of the first wine cellar. This inheritance was conveyed to the sons together with the passion and respect for quality.
According with the tradition, the typical patriarchal family began, with the forth generation, to divide the property. After Luigi arrived Clemente, then Alfredo, cavaliere of Vittorio Veneto, then Bruno, the first to bottle and to decorate them with his own label in the post-war period: his son Paolo followed him, last of seven generations.
